Abstract

This study aims to reveal effective strategies used by Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in improving students’ Qur’an reading skills and to analyze the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting the program’s success. Being able to read the Qur’an properly and correctly is an important aspect of a Muslim’s identity. However, in reality, many students in Indonesian society still lack the ability to read the Qur’an, including those at the Vocational High School (SMK) level. This is a serious issue, including at SMK Pacet. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation of Islamic Religious Education teachers, students, guardians, and the school. The results of the study indicate that the strategy implemented by Islamic Religious Education teachers through the Qur’ana method significantly improves students’ Qur’an reading skills and positively influences their character. This strategy includes planning, initial mapping and ability-based grouping, as well as periodic evaluations that support a contextual and personalized learning approach. The success of this program cannot be separated from the support of various parties, including the school’s commitment to providing facilities, teacher competence and motivation, parental involvement, and a supportive environment. However, obstacles still exist, such as lack of student motivation, limited facilities, and diverse religious backgrounds. Therefore, the program’s success requires strong synergy between the school, teachers, families, and the community to create a conducive and inclusive learning atmosphere.
